Arsenal’s Frida Maanum out of Euro 2025 qualifiers after Continental Cup final collapse

Frida Maanum will not take part in the Euro 2025 qualifiers for Norway after the Arsenal midfielder collapsed in a Continental Cup Final, Arsenal has announced. The Norwegian went down off the ball in injury time in the second-half during the final in Molineaux against Chelsea. Her side would beat the blues 1-0 after extra time.

She is “stable and doing well” according to the club but will not be part of the upcoming international break. Norway begins its qualification campaign with a game against Finland on Friday, 5th April.

“Frida Maanum will continue to be closely monitored by our medical team at Arsenal this week and will therefore not meet up with the Norwegian national team before their game on Friday,” the statement from Arsenal reads. “We are liaising closely with the Norwegian medical team. Frida is stable and doing well and we’ll share further updates as and when we receive them.”

The Continental Cup final was stopped for seven minutes as Maanum was treated by medics after she collapsed on the pitch, before being taken off on a stretcher. She did not need to go to hospital and returned home with her Arsenal teammates.

After hosting Finland, Norway will travel to the Netherlands on 9th April in the second off their two matches of the four-team group which includes Italy. The top two teams will qualify for the competition next year which will be hosted by Switzerland.

Arsenal is currently third in the Women’s Super League and will face Bristol on the 14th April.
