GuestReady reports surge in holiday lets driven by Coronation

GuestReady has reported that the price of holiday lets in London in May have shot up by an average of 67% thanks to a surge in demand from tourists for accommodation during the King’s Coronation weekend, data from the a renal management platform has found.

Millions of people are expected to visit London on the 6th of May to celebrate the Coronation. Many will stay in the city for the long weekend to experience this historic event.

GuestReady has found that the average cost of renting a London holiday let the weekend of the Coronation has risen from £485 in 2022 to £810 in 2023, an increase of 67%. The price rise mirrors those for hotel providers who reported room rates climbing up by 60% over the same period.

The Coronation will bring a boom to tourism in London, something the capital needs following the pandemic. GuestReady’s analysis has found that American visitors made up 18% of bookings, followed by visitors from France who made up 12% of bookings.

“There was a question mark hanging over the popularity of this Coronation compared to 1953, but King Charles is clearly set to draw in visitors, not just from the UK but internationally as well,” John Severino, UK Country Manager for GuestReady said. “No country does pageantry better than the British, and people clearly want to stay in London and be part of a once-in-a-lifetime experience. We are seeing visitors, particularly from the US, craving to stay somewhere authentic, personal and close to the action for the Coronation and that’s driving demand for stays in the capital.”
