Islamic State group claims responsibility for Moscow attack

The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for a gun attack at a Moscow concert Hall which killed at least 40 people according to Russian authorities. IS fighters “attacked a large gathering… on the outskirts of the Russian capital Moscow,” the group claimed in a statement on the Telegram messaging app.

The statement from IS went on to say that the attackers had “retreated to their bases safely. The Russian National Guard said that it was on the scene in search of the attackers. Gunmen opened fire at the rock concert in the north of Moscow in a suburb with over 40 people killed and over 100 more wounded. The attack set off an inferno in the theatre according to Russian authorities.

The attackers were reportedly dressed in camouflage uniforms as they entered the building before opening fire and throwing a grenade or incendiary bomb, a journalist for the RIA Novosti news agency reported at the scene.

A terrorist investigation and began by Russian authorities and President Vladimir Putin was receiving constant updates, his spokesmen Dmitry Peskov told news organisations in the country.
