KENSINGTON HIGH STREET CYCLE LANE COMING THIS AUGUST

Kensington High Street will get a new cycle lane, with work due to be complete in August. The designs are painted, dashed “with traffic flow” white lines without any physical infrastructure. Work is due to begin by the Council’s contractor on Tuesday 14 August and will take around three nights. Work will take place between 9pm and 6am to minimise disruption.

Kensington High Street will be open for the duration of the works. Minor traffic restrictions will be in place while the works are completed and people are being reminded to check local parking restrictions as some parking bays may be temporarily suspended.

The measures are being implemented after a consultation into the proposals found that 66 per cent of people who responded support or partially support the measures in Kensington High Street.

Cllr Cem Kemahli, lead member for planning, place and environment, said:

This new painted cycle lane allows space for everyone who uses our roads as well aim to become a greener, safer and fairer borough.

As with any works, there may be some minor disruption while we get the paint on the ground, but the design has been created to strike the right balance between making room for cyclists and keeping the major thoroughfare of Kensington High Street moving.

The original designs have been altered to allow a two-metre lane on the advice of road safety auditors and amended based on resident feedback to reduce any potential impact on traffic.

The consultation, which took place between 15 May and 26 June 2023 also consulted on an advisory cycle lane on Fulham Road, which will be implemented later in the year. The decision report is available in full on the Council’s website.
