Larry the Cat takes a Paws Between the Changing of the Guard

As the United Kingdom braces for the arrival of a new Prime Minister, another resident of No. 10 Downing Street, Larry the Cat, has been quietly awaiting his moment.

Larry, the country’s beloved chief mouse-catcher and long-time inhabitant of the Prime Minister’s official residence, was spotted early Friday morning, patiently sitting outside the iconic black door.

Unfazed by the eager press photographers gathered to capture the historic transfer of power, Larry lounged comfortably, seemingly indifferent to the commotion around him. The anticipated events of the day included Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s visit to King Charles III to tender his resignation. Following this, Labour leader Keir Starmer, is scheduled to meet the monarch to be formally appointed as the new Prime Minister.

Larry’s journey to Downing Street began in February 2011, when former Prime Minister David Cameron, enlisted him to handle a rat problem around the residence. Since then, Larry has become a fixture at No. 10, charming visitors and staff alike with his calm demeanor and effective rodent control skills.

While the political landscape of the UK prepares for a significant shift, Larry remains a constant, unruffled presence. His tenure at Downing Street has spanned multiple prime ministers, and he continues to fulfill his duties with a steady paw.

As the day unfolds and the nation’s leadership changes hands, Larry the tabby cat, brings a touch of feline grace to events.
