More primaries joining Wandsworth’s network of School Streets

On Monday, 17th June, Heathmere School on Roehampton’s Alton estate, Brandlehow School in Putney, and Belleville School’s site in Webbs Road, Battersea will all become School Streets. The scheme prohibits vehicles from using designated sections of carriageway in the immediate vicinity of schools during the start and end of the school day – but only during term times. Both Brandlehow and Heathmere schools are also benefiting from new zebra crossings outside the school gates to further enhance safety levels.

At Heathmere the School Street will operate in Hyacinth Road between its junctions with Alton Road and Greatham Walk, Mondays to Fridays, between 8.15 and 9am and from 3pm to 3.45pm.  At Brandlehow vehicle traffic will not be permitted to enter Skelgill Road, Monday to Friday, from 8.30am to 9.15am and from 2.45pm to 3.45pm.

And at Belleville, the School Street will operate in Belleville Road between Webb’s Road and Northcote Road – Monday to Friday, 8.20am to 9.10am and from 3pm to 3.40pm. Residents who live within the School Street zone are exempt from these restrictions.

“School Streets are designed to create a much safer and healthier environment for children and parents on their journey to and from school,”  Wandsworth’s Director of Environment and Community Services Paul Chadwick said.
