Pancake Day Races in the City of London

Spectators are invited to attend the annual Inter-Livery Pancake Race in Guildhall Yard. Every Shrove Tuesday, dozens of Livery members split up into teams and race through Guildhall Yard for the Inter-Livery Pancake Race.

Hosted by the Worshipful Company of Poulters, this is said to be one of the City’s most visually spectacular events of the year. Teams were either fancy dress or full regalia as they race around the Guildhall Yard tossing their pancakes and the victors are appropriately given frying pans along with their trophy.

This is also an example of the companies of the City Livery coming together to raise money for charity. Organised by Poulters, the Gunmakers provide as well as fire the starting gun, while the Clockmakers time the race, and the Fruiterers provide the lemons to go with the pancakes.

Pancakes will be on sale at the Guildhall Yard during the race which has been running every year for over 15 years. Proceeds go to charitable causes.

Races are due to start at noon!
