Upcycle your old garments into unique new creations

Residents are invited to bring damaged or old clothes and textiles to repair or upcycle at a free mending workshop on Saturday, 8th June, at The People Hive in Strawberry Hill. Needlework instructor Yukiko Munemoto, the host, aims to promote sustainable living through this workshop that will use the traditional Japanese stitching technique of Sashiko. Upcycling and repairing extends the useful life of materials, reduces the demand for new products, and minimises the volume of waste. This event is funded by Richmond’s climate action microgrant programme, which awards grants every month to support community-driven initiatives around climate change and sustainability.

If you’re looking to explore your love of crafting and stitching off the back of this workshop, the Library of Things in Twickenham can be very useful. They have sewing machines and a range of tools available to borrow. You can also enjoy a 10% discount off your first rental using the code RICHMONDLOT10.
